Working for English i2i
We are always seeking the right kind of teachers to add to our freelance team in Stockholm, around Sweden, and all over Scandinavia.
English i2i has grown every year since we began in 1999. Our competitive prices and high quality mean that our clients always come back and new clients are signing all the time.
Our type of teacher...
All of our teachers are trained, educated, experienced and very good at what they do. If you want to join us, you must be a native speaker and have an excellent education. You need to have qualified highly from a good University, have superlative language skills, exquisite grammar, a vociferous vocabulary and a sense of humour.
You must be relaxed, intelligent, charming, funny, dynamic and interesting. You will believe that teaching a language is a rare opportunity to meet people and help them achieve their goals.
You must like people and want to get to know them. You must be casual but extremely professional. You will also have a background that gives you a special edge over other teachers. This edge could be banking experience, training in marketing, science, linguistics or some other knowledge that can help you in teaching certain specialist classes.
Our classes are lively. We want a teacher who can engage people and think on their feet. We promise our clients flexibility so you must feel as comfortable structuring role plays, building improvisations, discussing management techniques and chairing debates as you are at teaching grammar or advanced vocab.
If any of these demands seem unreasonable - then try somewhere else. There are lots of schools out there who don't care what you are as long as you have a cert TEFL. We do.
Your type of work...
So, we've established what we want, but what do you get in return for being a fantastic teacher?
We will pay you well (on a freelance basis) and give you all the support you need. We'll help you structure lessons and give you training in how to get the most from your class.
Before you start a course, we will have met or contacted every student and know exactly what they need. You will not be going into a class blind.
As you are an extraordinary person, we trust you to do a good job. We do not tell you to teach from a set book like most other schools; you get to put together with us a course that is exactly right for your students.
You will enjoy your lessons with i2i. Our approach is to ensure that both the students and their teacher have fun - this is the best way to learn. Classes are intense and designed to teach the students as much as possible in 90 minutes. This is hard and demanding work; for you and them. If students are bored they don't retain or seek language and if you are bored - then your teaching suffers.
One of our teachers wrote this:
I started working for i2i in 2002. I just wrote ‘working for’ but I actually feel that a more accurate term would be ‘working with’. I have become part of a company that is new and dynamic, open to new ideas and new challenges, and grows by listening not only to students, but also through the experiences and thoughts of the teachers. We are a team working together to be the best and do the best for our students. There is a genuine care for our students making us, in my view, unique. We have a close, informal learning relationship with them.
The work is unlike anything you might expect from a traditional language school. The demands on the teacher are greater for a start. This is something you must want and enjoy. Those just looking for a job as a standard EFL teacher should not apply.
Perhaps the most outstanding point is the freedom I have to guide my courses. I choose and create all material for my classes, which allows me to meet the diverse needs of my students. It gives me flexibility to respond to what they want and gauge their strengths and weaknesses on an individual basis. The groups are small and intimate and allow for great learning, debate and fun.
Compared to other language schools the pay is excellent. I feel appreciated and motivated at i2i and job satisfaction is high.
